State Institute
of Automotive & Driving skills, Mahuana,(SIADS)
a driving training institute is a joint venture of Tata
Motors with Punjab Government. SIADS is situated on
the Malout–Dabwali Road (NH-10) at village Mahuana,
in Shri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab state,India.
SIADS was inaugurated on 19th February 2010
by the Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Prakash Singh Badal
and Mr. P.M. Telang, Managing Director, India operations,
Tata Motors, Master Mohan Lal(Transport Minister Punjab)
& other senior officials were present at the inauguration.
The institute has been set up in area of 14acres.
The state government has invested about Rs.15crore towards
creating a modern complex, computerised driving track
and hostel facilities besides providing the land and
infrastructure. Tata Motors have invested about Rs.2.75
crore in providing support in the form of designing
course content, technical assistance and know-how, guidence,
vehicles and earth moving equipments, training aggregates
and teaching aids. The training aims is developing for
the right atitude for safe driving and road safety among
drivers.
The objective of the institute
is to provide training to the youth of Punjab and in
turn, enhance their employability. The institute trains
drivers for heavy and light commercial vehicles, buses,
passenger cars, off-the-road (OTR) vehicles, earth moving
equipment, and also provide technical training related
to trades such as welding(Gas & Electric), Mechanic
auto electrical & electronics, Mechanic refrigration
& air conditioning, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic
Diesel, Mechanic electronics, Driver-cum-mechanic (LMV)
and Driver-cum-mechanic (HMV). Each batch in a trade
has a capacity to accomodate around 32 learners and
the module is designed for six month to two years depending
on the trade whereas for driving training the duration
ranges up to three months.
